What a Real DB Looks Like

A few blocks from the Las Vegas condo I’ve camped out in this week is a Wal-Mart. Inside, I ran into a person I’d never met before face to face and I was surprised how big he was. It was former Oakland Raider cornerback Lester Hayes. You might remember him as a real headhunter in his day. The surprise, for me, came in how big he was. He looked like a linebacker. He had to be about 6-foot-2 and weighed more than his playing days. He was an intimidating figure and I can see why he was such a force as a cornerback in the day. Hayes was signing autographs to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network.

I guess on TV, watching him back in the day, he didn’t look this big.

Just got a note from Craig Mayfield on hoops. Apparently BYU freshman Jimmer Fredette is such a big deal back in his hometown of Glens Falls, N.Y., that the local newspaper has a “Jimmer Freddette Update” section of their sports page where folks can “Keep up each night with our BYU basketball star.” The link on the Internet can be found at www.poststar.com.
