Olson, Walker behind closed doors
UCLA interim coach DeWayne Walker had a closed door meeting with quarterback Ben Olson following Wednesday practice in which he left the field and kept reporters waiting for half an hour.
On Thursday, Olson again took limited reps in practice, but was 10 times as fast out of the locker room where he headed straight to a waiting team bus with reporters requesting interviews.
“We had a talk. It was behind close doors. We talked about philosophy. We talked about leadership and how it applies to a quarterback and a team,” said Walker. “It was more of an opportunity for Ben to express himself, to talk. Sometimes it’s much more important for a player to express himself than it is for coaches to talk,” said Walker, who said he had a similar discussion with Osaar Rasshan, the QB who took the majority of the snaps for the UCLA offense on Thursday.
Walker didn’t rule out Olson playing in the bowl game against BYU on Saturday. “It isn’t over until it’s over,” said Walker.
