UCLA: Our QB Doesn't Matter
UCLA’s All-American defensive end Bruce Davis and No. 2 all-time sack leader may be sick of the Bruin offense sputtering all around this season. But he’s not complaining and he’s taking the backs of his teammates, whether it be Ben Olson or Ossar Rasshan. He doesn’t care who starts against BYU on Saturday.
Bottom line, says Davis, is if BYU doesn’t score, BYU doesn’t win. ‘That’s all that matters.’
You might remember it was Davis who sacked Max Hall several times in the last meeting, the last one a crucial turnover fumble that ended a late BYU drive.
Davis is standing up for Ossar, the converted wide receiver who may be thrown in a starting role against the Cougars. Ossar didn’t fare too well against Oregon but Davis explained why.
‘Ossan is a big-play guy. Oregon had a good day against him because they’ve been playing against Dennis Dixon for four years and are used to facing an athlete like that. How many teams can say that? BYU doesn’t do that. Ossan is a very explosive football player. With a little bit of work, he can be a great football player. I think he’s in the same caliber as Dennis Dixon. That’s not necessarily the system (Oregon) that we run. Ossar can get it done. It doesn’t matter who they put in there at quarterback.’
