Hill as D-Coordinator

Everyone know it was coming. It was only a matter of when it would be done that was up in the air the past two seasons.

Bronco Mendenhall made it official. Jaime Hill has been named the defensive coordinator, taking over every aspect of BYU’s defense except calling plays. Mendenhall reserved that right for himself.

This should have happened a year ago, that’s how much impact Hill has had with his concepts, coaching style, and plain old getting the defensive backs to turn around and look at the ball and make plays.

BYU’s secondary is far from talented. It is also far from making multiple big plays all the time. But it’s not as far as some would have you believe. Critics this year said the Cougars would be vulnerable to the deep ball, as seen when Paul Smith bombed the Cougars at Tulsa. But it never happened. Not on a consistent basis.

Hill is a coach who will be on the move and make lists of coaching hires in years to come. It was good to lock him up for two years right now. Mendenhall did so.

BYU’s secondary will only improve, im my opinion. Why? Becuase there will be better talent back there in the next few years, guys like G Pittman, whom BYU fans have not had a chance to see.

This is a good move, a solid move. Hill deserves the raise and the recognition.

Any guy who can work in four walk ons and help go 11-2 and win a bowl game, deserves all BYU can throw his way.
