Holmoe holds summit meeting with media on grid schedule
BYU put a thumb in the dam earlier this week, placing Division IAA Northern Iowa in the schedule to replace Nevada Aug. 20 in Provo.
Of course, as predicted, that set some fans on fire.
Holmoe explained the situation Thursday at lunch when he sat down with members of the media, fielded questions and talked philosophy on scheduling with BYU’s program.
Bottom line to the discussion: BYU isn’t going to dumb down its schedule in the future.
Interesting stuff. A full report will be forthcoming in Friday’s Deseret Morning News.
Holmoe was relaxed and it set the tone for the reporters, who questioned him on everything from going the Division IAA route to signing the four-year pact with Boise State.
Holmoe re-emphasized his role in getting BYU on TV nationally, that BYU’s administration had a very specific agenda and a timeline and they would not deviate from that until it was done. He would not elaborate on the elements of the agenda.
On a connected front, there is chatter around the league that Comcast/CSTV is ripe to ink a deal with DirectTV. Once that happens, DishNetwork will be forced to come on board.
I confirmed this this week with a connected person who should know. It is closer than ever. The timing is the issue. It might be too late in the sports year to get it done in the next month or weeks and useless to sign the pact in the dead summer months. But it could be a reality before the start of the 2008 football season.
How close is this to ending all the woe? The pen is apparently out of the pocket protector in the shirt and the cap to the pen is in place to be removed and signed.
We shall see.
