Cougar balance unravels CSU
I sat next to an NBA scout for the Milwaukee Bucks in Moby Gym Wednesday night and he had plenty of notes scratched down from BYU’s 79-65 win over Colorado State.
He made all kinds of notations on Lee Cummard, who did everything for 36 minutes for the Cougars in scoring 22 points. The Rams could not guard him and he consistently converted on broken plays with tips, grabbing loose balls and shooting from the outside while getting five assists.
But the scout also had plenty on Plaisted who was perfect (9 for 9) against the Rams. The impressive thing about Plasited is that he looked and played like he did in December. He wasn’t forcing those awkward shots. He played with great confidence, just like he did in the win over Louisville and games against North Carolina and Michigan State.
Plaisted had 21 points in 22 minutes. He was impressive. “Absolutely, I’d have liked to have played more minutes. But I got called for fouls. I have to leave it up to someone else to interpret if they really were fouls. But I felt good out there.”
Aside from those two efforts, perhaps the scout was most impressed by BYU’s balance. All five starters scored in double figures, the first time that’s happened all season. Cummard led all scorers on BYU’s team with 22 points.
The win marked the fourth straight BYU road win and seventh-straight victory in a row. The last time the Cougars lost was that 29-point nightmare at UNLV.
“We’re looking forward to that one,” said Cummard.
