Interesting Comcast quarterly report
We still don’t have a Mountain West TV deal that includes distribution on satellite dish companies. Although I believe a deal is close with DirectTV and it will be announced soon, there was an interesting report in today’s New York Times about Comcast.
You might remember, Comcast is half owner of The Mtn network, which has joined partner CSTV/CBS in negotiating a deal with the dish companies. They’re arguing over money, how much the dish companies have to pay for the programming and how much Comcast and CSTV/CBS wants to take in.
The quarterly reports are out for Comcast. The nation’s largest cable TV provider profits were up 54 percent in the fourth quarter — when the MWC struggled to get its football games on dish companies.
Comcast will start paying a 6.25-cent quarterly dividend in April to shareholders and expects that will be increased over time.
Geez, couldn’t somebody give up a few pennies and get MWC sports to a broader nationwide audience? Or is it just not worth it?
