Final week focus

Which is tougher, trying to put a SDSU loss behind and get on to a road game in The Pit at New Mexico or experiencing an emotional overtim victory over the Lobos and then return home to play pesky Air Force in the Marriott Center.

It’s a good question. Both have the fixings of a trap. Immature teams, or those with character or chemistry issues could struggle with either one.

But Dave Rose said the tougher situation may have been the latest.

Why? Because his team has done very well with compartmentalizing losses, tucking them away, forgetting about them and getting on the the next item on the agenda.

But when they defeated New Mexico in The Pit, before a sellout crowd, a setting that was as tough as the Cougars have been in all season; to stage a late comeback at the end; to go into over time, to expend so much emotion in getting the win and then celebrating all the way home…

Rose said that situation last weekend worried him the most.

Then BYU went out and got ahead of AFA by 32 points.

“That shows me how focused these guys were,” said Rose. “That’s a good sign.”
