Situational workout highlights Tuesday practice
It’s evident BYU’s three biggest offensive weapons aside from Harvey Unga are players the current defense struggles to contain.
In a situational scrimmage Thursday, Austin Collie, Dennis Pitta stood out and generally speaking of all spring practices, Andrew George has become a consistent threat. In fact, this tandem of tight ends could be as good as any since Itula Mili and Chad Lewis.
On Tuesday, with his back to the Indoor Practice Facility wall, Max Hall hit Austin Collie on a beautiful timing pass as Collie moved to the inside after making his break and the ball was on time — indefensible.
Twice, on situations set up in the blue zone, QBs found Pitta for touchdown receptions and BYU safeties were unable to make a play on the ball as it was thrown high where Pitta could make a play on the ball.
Defensively, Scott Johnson showed why he is starting. On an early quick pass play, Johnson was in perfect position to knock down a fast-developing strike from Hall intended for Collie.
Hall finished the brief segment 4 of 6 for 32 yards. Pitta had two touchdown catches with 24 yards receiving.
Bronco Mendenhall said he showed the team the new MWC schedule which came out Tuesday afternoon. He then took it down, not wanting it to be the focus of anything in spring.
Mendenhall said he liked the part of the schedule with a series of home games or games in Utah after the Washington trip.
Fireside alert:
The BYU football team will hold a fireside on Thursday, April 3, beginning at 7 p.m. (MT). The fireside will be held at the LDS Chapel, located on 110 E. Main Street, located in American Fork. (The chapel is located on the corner of State Street and Main Street.)
