Tom Holmoe sitting down with Big Boys
This week, the BCS meetings are going on in Hollywood, Fla., and BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe was chosen to represent the league athletic directors at the meetings.
Holmoe will not have a big voice, if a voice at all, but he will represent and learn while rubbing shoulders with BCS folks.
On the agenda are the following discussion topics:
-A review of the plus-one model will generate more public interst than anything else. This is a playoff proposal for discussion of a four-team championship that will go one game, then another and include the top four ranked teams.
–TV issues will be on the table with Fox and ABC. Fox is expected to discuss how adding a fifth BCS bowl would impact its current contract which is runs through 2010. A separate ABC contract that runs through 2014 involves only the Big Ten and Pac-10 and the Rose Bowl.
–Rankings. The commissioners (of BCS schools) and invited non-BCS commissioners like MWC’s Craig Thompson, will review weighting of the Harris Poll, coaches poll and computer rankings that determine the BCS rankings used to seat the four BCS bowls.
– Additional bowls. There are a few proposals, including a bowl for Salt Lake City.
