John Beck finishes camp on high note

It remains to be seen how John Beck will fair in the Dolphin QB derby. But I predict after his work during 21 practices, he will be named the starter after a few preseason games.

Why?

Beck has outworked nearly everyone on his team. He’s added critical pounds and strength. He took the No. 1 reps in the final practice session on Friday after trading that duty with Josh McCown and he is far ahead of where he was a year ago when he rarely got No. 1 reps and had to settle for a lot of wipe up work with the 3′s, even just before he started.

According to reports out of the Dolphin camp, Beck threw two touchdown passes on each of his two possessions in the final practice — one to RB Ricky Williams and another to David Kircus.

In 21 practices, which included hundreds of pass attempts, Beck threw just one interception and it came in a seven-on-seven drill. His QB coach is on record saying Beck may have thrown six to seven thousand passes the past few months.

In weeks to come, Beck will be golfing, doing a lot of it with his sticks around the Miami area in fundraisers and he will play as a guest of Steve Young in the American Indian Shootout in Utah this month.

Who will be the Dolphin starter when the regular season begins? Take your shot now.
