AM practice: Defense makes some plays
Tuesday’s afternoon practice featured some plays by players who have been sitting out with injuries.
Safety David Tafuna knocked down two deep passes intended for Dennis Pitta and he was in position as a third sailed over Pitta head from Max Hall.
Matt Ah You had a huge tackle for loss and then hit receiver Landon Jaussi on a crossing route that may have rocked his fillings out of his teeth.
Fui Vakapuna did score a nice TD on a goal line stand to end the session.
“What happened is we finally got some guys back on the field,” said defensive coordinator Jaime Hill. The depth chart is still influx right now, said the coach. “We’ll know more by Thursday and make some decisions.”
Hill said the move of Daniel Sorensen was a natural move for the former California All-CIF star. “That’s his position, that’s where he’ll play at this level and that’s where we had him playing when we recruited him. He just needs to grow into that role now.”
Hill said that linebacker position Sorensen plays is like a DB position anyway in his zone defense. “We require him to do a lot of dropback and he’s perfect for that.”
Wednesday’s scrimmage will not include any starters, said Bronco Mendenhall.
