So, what's going on with Collie?
So, what’s up with Austin Collie?
The four drops at Washington were about as uncharacteristic of this Cougar star as anything we’ve seen this season. His freshman year, he had one drop in the season. Last year he may have had four or five drops all year long.
And then Saturday?
He dropped four passes, two of them of the easy kind.
Was it the sun? Was it his missing most of fall camp? Was it his distraction from playing quarterback?
Well, let’s go to the expert, his best friend, his buddy, quarterback Max Hall. The two are joined at the hip. The duo are competitive as cats over a bowl of tuna.
Said Hall: “He’s human. I think one pass the sun got in his eyes and the other pass, he just dropped. Very, very uncharacteristic of him. But it doesn’t change a thing for me, he’s still our go to guy, he’s still our big time receiver and big playmaker. I don’t make every pass perfect and he’s going to drop the ball once in a while. Hopefully, he just got those out of the way.”
Hall said knowing Collie, he was frustrated. “But he also told everyone, he’d pick it up and go on. He said ‘Hey, let’s move on, next play, next drive.’ He made some plays later in the game.”
Hall praised Collie for his catch and recognition of the play on the first touchdown of the game. “I sprinted out, he recognized it and adjusted to get open and made a great catch for the touchdown. He’s a great football player.”
