Sick and tired of celebration-gate?

That Jake Locker celebration call has received about as much mileage than the “lipstick” banter in the elections this week.

So, knowing it’s a dead horse, whipped to dust, I share this note. I did receive this suggestion for an NCAA rule change from a longtime friend of mine. He is extremely sick of hearing about the issue.

Here’s a proposal from Mike Spackman, Sandy:

In the aftermath of the BYU vs. Washington unsportsmanlike conduct penalty fiasco the NCAA is going to adopt a new rule referred to as the “Do Over – Penalty Excused” rule,” DOPE for short.

The ruling applies in the following situation:

1.A player breaks a rule, gets flagged for it and later wishes he hadn’t done it.
2.The game is being played in the player’s home stadium.
3.The player’s coach is under fire for poor performance and is at risk of losing his job.
4.The referees in the game are from the player’s own conference.
5.That conference has a policy of not allowing outside officials to work their home games.
6.The possibility exists that the “experts” on television sports shows will be “outraged.”

The ruling is applied as follows:

1.The player’s coach must throw a tear-drop shaped flag on the field before the next play.
2.The referee worries about “what others may say” and picks up the flag.
3.The referee gives a stern warning to the offending player (wink, wink).
4.The referee vows to never again let the rules get in the way of doing his job.
