BYU ends up dominating fiesty Wyoming 44-0
Let’s see, BYU goes 103-0 in seven days against UCLA and Wyoming.
The Cougars should stay or rise in the polls after that performance. The big watch item early this week will be to see if Ohio State drops after an unimpressive win over Troy. The Buckeyes are ranked ahead of the Cougars.
Max Hall threw three touchdown passes in 2.5 quarters, the defense came up with six turnovers, two of them directly led to BYU defenders running for touchdowns in a 44-0 win on Saturday before a packed LaVell Edwards Stadium.
Now they’ll rest for a week before playing Utah State in two weeks.
The Cougars started slow (see first half blog) but then, just like the week before against the Bruins, turnovers ignited a momentum change in BYU’s favor and Bronco Mendenhall’s team scored threee touchdowns in the second quarter.
Items that impressed me?
-Max Hall making adjustments to a double-teamed Dennis Pitta and hitting Austin Collie for big plays.
-Robert Anae turning to Harvey Unga to take the Wyoming scheme and shake and rattle it successfully.
-BYU’s physical play on both sides of the line of scrimmage with the guys in the trenches.
–I haven’t seen anybody yet who can cover a healthy Austin Collie.
–Harvey Unga can change a game and discourage a defense.
Things that bugged me?
–A slow start, signaling a lack of focus, but it could be credited to some excellent plays by Wyoming early.
–Kickoff coverage is suspect.
– Oneil Chambers getting a dumb personal foul after he clearly earned an interference call. Freshman.
