Cougar defense missing Doman, Sorensen

Just like the year the Cougars played AFA with Reno Mahe back from surgery on his appendix, the Cougars had another starter come down with the ailment.

Linebacker Sam Doman had an attack late Friday and had emergency surgery. Unlike Mahe, he had zero recovery time to make this game and did not travel with the team.

The procedure for Doman was not intrusive (arthoscopic) and he will recover more quickly than a normal incision. BYU folks believe he could be back for next week’s Utah game in Salt Lake City.

Doman’s situation means Matt Ah You will get the start. He will be backed up by Terrance Hooks.

Just got word Daniel Sorensen, an outside linebacker, sprained his ankle yesterday and will not play in this game. That’s two linebackers in the past 24 hours. Sorensen’s ailment happened on Thursday. Neither are on the trip. Blake Morgan and Stephen Covey replaced those two on the travel roster, not necessarily replacing those guys at those positions.

Interesting how marketing the color black has taken over sports. The Utes came out against TCU in San Diego State home black colors more than a week ago. I just saw AFA’s coaching staff enter the press area and they had on nifty black attire, slick jackets, all black with a little bit of blue in the lettering and lightning bolt.

I will be blogging on the AFA game today. Stay tuned.
