Cougars re-tooling for bowl game
Bronco Mendenhall will have some team meetings today and then set his team loose for the Thanksgiving Holiday before preparing for a bowl game.
While there is much speculation about whether BYU and Boise State could be a matchup in San Diego because the Pac-10 might not fill all its bowl obligations, the more likely deal is for the Pac-10 to qualify somebody like Cal or Oregon to play in the Las Vegas Bowl and that bowl, banking on financial gain from ticket sales, hotels and TV ratings, would go with the Cougars.
Nobody fills Sam Boyd Stadium like the Cougars, even if it is disappointing consolation at 10-2 to return to the Las Vegas Bowl.
The Cougars came out of the Utah game will no major injuries. Michael Reed, who was helped off the field at the end of the game, had a minor tweak and he will be OK. Ditto for Harvey Unga, who had a huge scrape contusion to his led on the same play.
Dennis Pitta, who obviously struggled with that MCL sprain, will take the time off to heal and should be ready by the bowl game. CB Scott Johnson could be questionable. His muscle tears (groin) will take a long time to heal up before he is full speed.
