BYU's super soph earns MWC player of the week
Jimmer Fredette got the recognition he deserved after two eye-popping performances in wins over SDSU and Utah this past week. The MWC named him the player of the week on Monday.
It could be said Fredette’s two performances may have had the biggest impact on the MWC race last week.
Fredette had 28 points on 19 of 18 shots in San Diego — tying his career high. He had 20 of those points in the second half and had a career high 5 steals. He backed that up with a 25-point day on 8 of 18 shooting in a win over first-place Utah. In that game, Fredette scored 14 of those points in the paint, some of them on impressive spin moves over 7-2 Luke Nevill, the league’s best shot blocker.
On the week, Fredette averaged 26.6 points, 3.5 steals and 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds. He shot 51.4 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc (3 for 9). He hit 93.3 percent from the free throw line.
