BYU gets commitment from Hawaii D-lineman
Graham Rowley, a 6-foot-4, 265 pound defensive end at Waialua, Haw., gave his pledge to Bronco Mendenhall to sign with BYU as part of the class of 2010 today.
Rowley made the decision this morning and called BYU coaches after sitting on an offer for six weeks. Rowley and his family attended Cougar spring football practices a month ago during a ski trip and after one day he fell in love with the program and school, according to his father Dale, who confirmed the commitment Wednesday evening.
Rowley has a 3.7 GPA at Waialua, a small intermediate school, grades 7 through 12. Waialua is small town where UCLA offensive coordinator Norm Chow grew up while attending the larger private Punahoe School.
Rowley has scholarship offers from Hawaii, Stanford, SMU, Washington and Colorado and was being recruited by UCLA and Oregon. He attended Stanford’s junior day a few weeks ago.
Rowley’s father and mother both attended BYU. His grandfather, Howard Rowley, works for a real estate company located a block from BYU’s practice facility and also graduated from BYU.
