Gearing up for Cougar camp

The opening of BYU’s football camp is about a week from now.

Jeff Call and I are gearing up for features, interviews, some analysis and we’ll be using our blog space to update appropriate stories before our print edition is posted.

I invite reader participating on what questions need to be answered as fall camp unfolds. We’ll try to attack them all. Feel free to drop me a line at dharmon@desnews.com.

I’ve also got one of those Tweeter accounts and I’ll and ratchet up the tweeting as stuff breaks in coming days.

Our precamp stories will kickoff this weekend in the Deseret News.

Mendenhall told reporters last week in Henderson he was fine with the spotlight off him this summer. It had shifted to others including TCU’s Gary Patterson (his team was picked No. 1) and Kyle Whittingham (Sugar Bowl victor).

“I prefer that,” said Mendenhall,” he said when asked how it felt to be the poster boy last year and now he’s kind of a side show at the league meetings.

“If I had to be categorized, it would be a little introverted , I’m more comfortable in that role.”

He then gave a 48 minute interview to a gathering of reporters. Mendenhall has consistently been the most popular coach with the biggest crowd of media at this affair each July.
